Details About Rainbow Nation:

South Africa is the nation referred to as the “Rainbow Nation.” After the nation’s first democratic elections in 1994, Archbishop Desmond Tutu coined this phrase to characterize South Africa following apartheid. “Each of us is as intimately attached to the soil of this beautiful country as are the famous jacaranda trees of Pretoria and the mimosa trees of the bushveld a rainbow nation at peace with itself and the world,” President Nelson Mandela said in his first month in office, expanding on the phrase. The phrase was designed to capture the spirit of multiculturalism and the coming together of individuals from many countries in a nation historically associated with the rigid separation of whites and blacks under the Apartheid system.
