A progressive neurological condition affecting motor control is Parkinson’s disease. Degeneration of dopamine-producing neurons in the brain, especially in the substantia nigra region, is its defining feature. One neurotransmitter that is necessary for coordinated and fluid muscular actions is dopamine. Parkinson’s patients have tremors, rigidity, bradykinesia (slowed movements), and postural instability as a result of the death of these neurons.
