Sirimavo Bandaranaike (Sirima Ratwatte Dias Bandaranaike) was born into a wealthy family in Sri Lanka in 1916 where initially she did not want to run for office. her husband was the fourth prime minister of Sri Lanka and he was named Solomon Bandaranaike. he was only prime minister for three years until he was assassinated. After his death, Sirimavo was convinced to run and replace him. She held office 3 times from 1960 to 1965, 1970 to 1977, and 1994 until she died in 2000.
